1-1 Math Mentorship & Tutoring
My course on Math Magic engaged 7th graders at Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics with counting and probability problems entirely via card tricks.
I curate custom curriculum for motivated students at any stage. I specialize in supporting elementary and middle school students who enjoy math and wish to excel in advanced courses.
Meeting weekly allows me to understand a student’s learning style and address their specific needs and goals, and it supports a strong mentorship relationship.
Collaboration with teachers to gain a more holistic picture of the student’s progress in school.
STUDENTS
2nd-5th graders needing foundation work with number sense or extra challenge including elementary math competitions
6th-8th graders seeking extra challenge including middle school math competitions; preparing for the SSAT high school selection
9th-12th graders seeking extra challenge, preparing for the SAT/ACT and college selection
Undergraduates studying calculus, proof writing, geometry, topology, abstract algebra, discrete math, and combinatorics
Adults preparing for the GRE, pursuing a career change, or simply missing engaging math problems
I guide students to understand concepts through inquiry, practicing problem solving strategies, and helping them make connections between concepts. Students’ curiosity is encouraged as they explore and assess different approaches to problems. They develop deep understanding, confidence, and independence while improving verbal and written communication of abstract ideas.
I’m especially committed to supporting all students, particularly girls, who may have internalized societal messages that they’re less capable than their peers. My students regularly prove this to be false, and I love seeing how they confidently use their skills to change the world!
SESSIONS
We address the student’s specific questions from their school homework, the supplementary problems I assigned, or recent assessments. We pursue practice and challenge problems that incorporate relevant concepts in new and complex ways. We enjoy exploring problems together using virtual or physical whiteboards.
Meetings culminate with a reflection of learning. A detailed report including a tailored assignment is shared with student, parents, and/or educational team.
LOGISTICS
Most students meet 1-2 times per week depending on their goals. Sessions are 50-55 minutes at regular times and are held in Pacific Heights, San Francisco, or online.
