Online or in Person in San Francisco, CA

Who We Serve

  • Grades 2-5 students needing foundation math work with number sense or extra challenge, including elementary math competitions

  • Grades 6-8 students seeking extra math challenge including middle school math competitions; Preparing for the SSAT, high school selection, and high school placement exams

  • Grades 9-12 students seeking support in honors math courses and AP Calculus; Preparing for SAT/ACT and college selection

  • Undergraduates taking Calculus, Proof Writing, Discrete Math, or Abstract Algebra

  • Adults preparing for GRE, career change, or simply missing engaging math

No matter the level, we guide students to understand math concepts through inquiry, practice problem-solving strategies, and help them make connections between concepts. Students’ curiosity is encouraged as they explore and assess different approaches to problems.

They develop deep mathematical understanding, confidence, and independent thinking while learning to communicate with clarity and precision.

We are committed to supporting all students, particularly girls, to see themselves as future mathematicians and leaders in STEM.

Case Studies

I often work with 5th or 6th graders who are on the cusp of joining the advanced math tracks. While working together once/week during the school year, they consistently earn As and are star class contributors throughout middle school. They regularly thrive in Honors Algebra 2 in 9th grade and Calculus in 10th grade.

Sessions

Each Custom Math Tutoring Session is customized to address the student’s needs. We often discuss particular questions from their school math homework or recent assessments, and the supplementary problems I assigned. We complete practice and challenge problems that incorporate relevant math concepts in new and complex ways. We effectively utilize virtual or physical whiteboards.

Meetings end with a reflection of learning. A detailed report including a tailored assignment is shared with student, parents and/or educational team.

Recommendation

Though I will meet students where they are at in any grade, I highly recommend beginning math enrichment by about 3rd Grade, as I’ve seen tremendous gains by several students who have been able to do so. We have a full curriculum to deepen their understanding of school math from 3rd - 8th grade, which sets them up for great success into high school and beyond.

Problem-Solving Labs are also available from 3rd grade to work through a similar enrichment curriculum while practicing team work and communication in small-group setting.

Logistics

Custom Math Tutoring Sessions are 55 minutes at regular weekly times, 1-2 times per week depending on student goals.

Sessions are held online or at our center in the Cow Hollow neighborhood of San Francisco.
