Who I Serve
Grades 1-5: For students building the foundation for advanced math pathways. We develop mathematical reasoning, problem-solving ability, and conceptual understanding to prepare students for the transition into accelerated middle school math programs. Students also explore enrichment topics and math competitions as they develop confidence and curiosity in mathematics.
Grades 6-8: For students pursuing accelerated math pathways, enrichment, and advanced coursework. I help students deepen their understanding of core mathematical concepts while developing the independence, flexibility, and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in rigorous high school math programs. I also support students preparing for SSAT, HSPT, school entrance exams, and placement assessments by identifying gaps, strengthening conceptual understanding, and developing the mathematical maturity needed for advanced coursework, including acceleration beyond Algebra and Geometry.
Grades 9-12: For students pursuing excellence in honors mathematics, AP Calculus, and advanced coursework. We help students move beyond procedural fluency to develop deeper conceptual understanding, flexible problem-solving strategies, and the ability to synthesize complex ideas. We also support students with SAT/ACT Math preparation, including strategic use of tools such as Desmos while developing the ability to solve problems manually and understand the underlying mathematical concepts. Students build the confidence and mathematical maturity needed to thrive in challenging academic environments.
Undergraduates: For students seeking deeper understanding in advanced mathematics courses, including Calculus, Proof Writing, Discrete Mathematics, and Abstract Algebra. I help students develop conceptual clarity, rigorous problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate mathematical ideas with precision.
Adults: For adults preparing for the GRE, transitioning careers, returning to mathematics after time away, or pursuing mathematics for personal enrichment. I provide individualized instruction that builds confidence, strengthens mathematical understanding, and makes challenging ideas accessible and fun.
No matter the level, I guide students to understand mathematics through inquiry, strategic problem solving, and meaningful connections between concepts. Students learn to look beyond individual techniques, recognize patterns across topics and chapters, and synthesize ideas into a deeper understanding of mathematics as a connected discipline.
Students develop mathematical confidence, independent thinking, and the ability to communicate their reasoning with clarity and precision. They learn not only how to solve problems, but how to approach unfamiliar problems thoughtfully and develop their own mathematical perspective.
I am committed to supporting all students, particularly girls, in seeing themselves as capable mathematicians and future leaders in STEM.
I work with motivated students who seek challenge, want to go beyond the standard math curriculum, and are eager to develop deep mathematical understanding.
Many students begin working with me in elementary school, where we build the depth of understanding, problem-solving ability, and mathematical maturity needed to thrive in accelerated middle school and high school coursework.
Through guided inquiry, students learn to explore mathematical ideas, develop their own strategies, make connections between concepts, and communicate their reasoning with clarity and precision.
Start Early to Build Deep Foundations
I highly recommend beginning math enrichment by 3rd Grade, as I’ve seen tremendous gains by several students who have been able to do so. I offer a comprehensive enrichment curriculum from 1st–8th grade that extends beyond school mathematics, building the depth of understanding, problem-solving ability, and mathematical maturity needed for accelerated pathways into middle school, high school, and beyond.
Problem-Solving Labs are also available from 3rd grade to work through a similar enrichment curriculum while practicing team work and communication in small-group setting, which is often an under-practiced skill during school.
Case Studies
I often work with 5th or 6th graders who are on the cusp of joining the advanced math tracks. While working together once per week during the school year, they consistently earn A’s and are star class contributors throughout middle school. Long term students often thrive in Honors Algebra 2 in 9th grade and advanced Calculus in 10th grade.
Sessions
Each Math Coaching Session is customized to address the student’s needs. Students follow a personalized curriculum that connects to and extends beyond school coursework, incorporating rich problem-solving from resources such as Art of Problem Solving/ Beast Academy, math circle-style explorations, and mathematical competitions such as MOEMS, AMC8, MathCounts, etc. I connect material to current school topics so that students may deepen understanding and make broader connections.
Whenever possible, I make advanced mathematics engaging and tangible through hands-on exploration, including manipulatives, geometric constructions, puzzles, and mathematical investigations. Students develop intuition, creativity, and flexible problem-solving strategies before moving toward more formal and abstract reasoning.
Meetings end with a reflection of learning. After each session, families receive detailed feedback on concepts covered, student progress, and recommended practice. This creates an ongoing record of growth rather than isolated tutoring sessions.
Logistics
Coaching Sessions are generally 55 minutes at regular weekly times, 1-2 times per week depending on student goals.
Sessions are held online or at my center in the Cow Hollow neighborhood of San Francisco.
